About The Gallery

CHAMBERS OF THE HEART followed an ANTI-CURATORIAL PROCESS initially designed by Bushra Gill and Jason Wyman in Fall 2024, for a show called Nothing New. The concept is simple: remove barriers to participation so everyday artists can easily participate. Each show following the Anti-Curatorial Process is organized by and for a certain community. Artists must self-determine if they identify as part of that community. Only digital submissions are accepted, and there is no fee to submit. The final physical exhibition is a print show with all costs for printing digital submissions incurred by the organizing team. All artists who meet the basic requirements (self-identification with a specific community and digital submission) are accepted into the final exhibition and catalog.

For Chambers of the Heart, all artists self identified as either Trans and/or Queer AND 25 or under from across the Americas. Artists were asked to share up to 450 words (total) about themselves, their art, and which Chamber (generations, cultures, solidarities, or the Cosmos) they most identified with. We received 48 submissions total. 47 met requirements (one identified as being over 25.) 41 made it into the catalog due to attrition during the onboarding process. This 3D virtual gallery was designed, developed and funded by Hamza Kubba / perplex.gg, based on input and ideas from the Chambers of the Heart organising team. Special thanks to the open source software community, especially the contributors behind W3C, Blender and Three.js, for making such a project possible. We believe the fight for Indigenous, Black, racial, gender, sexual, disability, environmental, class, caste, migrant and refugee, worker, and education justice and liberation is nothing new, and we believe cultivating camaraderie amongst everyday artists is one small act of solidarity we can take now to ensure justice and liberation exists for generations to come.
